Why does my Amana dryer not start at all?

Distance to the Outside Wall

Bigger floor plans often put the laundry room in the middle of the second floor, so the dryer's exhaust duct may wind through joists and bends before it exits. Every extra foot and elbow slows airflow. Lint builds up, drying times stretch, and the dryer's safety devices start tripping. Pollen-heavy spring weeks and humid summers only add to the load.

Begin with the lint screen and the outside hood. With the dryer running, the hood flap should open firmly; if it barely moves, the duct needs cleaning by someone equipped to do it.
