Why does my Dacor burner relight itself or click when the flame looks fine?

The reignition system watches for a flame at the burner. If the cap is crooked, the burner is dirty or a switch is wet, it may misread the flame and keep sparking. Reseating and drying the parts often fixes it; if not, we test the switch and module.

We moved our gas stove to a Clover farmhouse on propane. Why are the flames so tall?

The stove likely still has natural gas orifices. Propane needs smaller orifices and a different regulator setting. Stop using it and have it converted properly.

Dacor Stoves: What We Check First

Dacor's gas surfaces use sealed burners, a mix of high-output and simmer burners, and electronic spark ignition with an automatic reignition feature on many models: if the flame goes out, the system senses it and sparks again. Propane, natural gas and electric stoves

Clover has a mix: in-town homes may have natural gas, while farm properties outside town often run on propane or electric. A propane stove needs its orifices matched to the fuel; a stove moved from a natural gas home and not converted will burn with tall, yellow flames. If you smell gas, leave the house and call the gas supplier or 911.

Electric coil stoves in older Clover homes usually fail at the element, the receptacle or the infinite switch. These are ordinary parts, and repairing an older stove is often well worth it. Turn the stove off and let it cool, then reseat each coil firmly; a receptacle that looks scorched means that burner should stay off until it is replaced.
