With the stove off and cool, make sure the burner cap is seated correctly and the ports are clear. Look at the igniter tip for cracks or crusted food. If everything looks clean and it still will not light, the igniter or wiring may need replacing.

We moved our gas stove to a Clover farmhouse on propane. Why are the flames so tall?

The stove likely still has natural gas orifices. Propane needs smaller orifices and a different regulator setting. Stop using it and have it converted properly.

Some very old Ropers may still use standing pilots, which behave differently and need their own approach. Simple as the system is, small things like spills or a misplaced cap can stop it from working.

Propane, natural gas and electric stoves
