Is it worth repairing a Smeg countertop microwave?

Smeg has also sold countertop microwaves styled like its retro small appliances in some markets, but those are usually not worth an in-home repair visit, and we will tell you that honestly.

Built-in microwaves after rural power trouble

Microwaves rely on electronic controls, and the surges that can follow a rural outage are hard on them. A microwave that shows a blank display, beeps but will not start, or runs without heating after a storm may have a blown internal fuse, a failed door switch or a damaged board. Over-the-range models in newer homes around Midland also run the vent fan and light, so a failure affects the whole cooking area.
