Is clicking normal on a Thermador cooktop?

On ExtraLow, the burner cycles on and off and clicks to relight, which is normal. Continuous clicking at other settings or with the knobs off usually means a wet or failing switch or igniter.

My propane cooktop in Midland has yellow flames. Is that a problem?

Thermador's gas cooktops are built around its patented Star burners, whose five-pointed shape gives a longer flame perimeter and more even heat. Many include ExtraLow, which cycles the flame on and off for very gentle simmering. Thermador also makes induction cooktops, including the Freedom induction model that can detect pans anywhere on the surface, and some electric radiant models. Gas models use a single spark module that sends current to every igniter when any knob is turned to light.

Propane burners and glass tops

On a propane cooktop, burners that light weakly, flame unevenly or keep clicking usually come down to a dirty or wet igniter, a misplaced burner cap, or clogged burner ports. If the cooktop was converted from natural gas, the orifices must match propane, and a mismatch shows up as yellow, lazy flames. Glass-top electric cooktops more often lose an element or a switch, and controls can be affected by storm surges.

Clean and dry the burner caps and igniters, make sure the propane tank has fuel, and check the breaker for electric models. If you smell gas, turn everything off, leave and call your propane supplier or 911. The technician tests ignition parts, burners, elements and switches, and quotes before repairing.
