Dual and triple elements have separate rings controlled by a switch or relay. If only the inner ring heats, the outer ring, its switch or the wiring has likely failed. We test each part and replace only what is needed.

My gas cooktop burner clicks constantly after a boil-over. How do I fix it?

Turn off the power, remove the cap and burner head, clean them and let them dry thoroughly, since moisture keeps the igniter sparking. Reseat the cap evenly. If it still clicks when dry, the igniter switch or spark module needs replacement.

The radiant models often include dual and triple elements that switch between ring sizes, while the induction units use coils and power boards that regulate the magnetic field for each zone. Gas models use spark ignition and LG's UltraHeat high-output burners on some versions. Most are controlled by touch panels on the glass or front-mounted knobs.

Long Simmering, Spills and Burner Switches

Cooking for a large household means long simmering, heavy pots and frequent spills, and cooktops show it. On gas surfaces, boil-overs clog burner ports and soak the igniter, causing constant clicking or uneven flames. On electric coil tops, elements and their receptacles burn out from heavy use, and the infinite switch behind each knob can fail so a burner only runs on high. Smooth glass tops can crack from heavy cookware or sliding pots. Before any check, turn off the breaker, and never work on the gas supply. If you smell gas, leave the house and call the gas utility or 911.

Cleaning First, Then Testing

Remove gas burner caps, clean the ports with a soft brush and let everything dry fully before reseating the caps evenly. On a coil top, swap a dead element into a working position to see whether the element or the switch is at fault. If the problem stays, we test igniters, switches, receptacles and elements and tell you the cost first. Most cooktop repairs are straightforward.
