A flexible harness and hose follow the drawer as it opens and closes, carrying power, signals and water. In a double DishDrawer, the top and bottom are independent machines that share a cabinet but not a motor or control. Generations of Dishwashers Under One Counter

In an older home, a newer dishwasher may sit in an opening built for an earlier model, connected to plumbing and wiring that have been reused through several replacements. Kinked drain hoses, worn supply connections and loose mounting brackets are common, and they lead to leaks and poor draining rather than an outright failure of the machine.

On properties served by private wells, iron and sediment can leave a reddish or gritty film in the tub, clog the inlet valve screen and dull the spray arms. A whole-house sediment filter is a plumbing question, but the dishwasher symptoms are ours to sort out.
