My Samsung dishwasher stopped mid-cycle with a leak warning. What now?

Switch it off and look for water under the unit or suds in the tub. If you used regular dish soap, suds alone can trip the leak sensor, and the base pan has to dry out before it resets. If there is no obvious cause, a seal or hose is leaking and should be inspected before you run it again.

Samsung Dishwashers: What We Check First

Samsung dishwashers share the usual tub, pump and spray-arm layout, but several models add the brand's own ideas. WaterWall units replace the lower spray arm with a fixed jet and a reflector bar that travels along a track at the back of the tub. StormWash models have a rotating jet zone. Nearly all of them use a leak sensor in the base pan that stops the cycle the moment water collects there, which is why a small drip can shut the whole machine down.

Generations of Dishwashers Under One Counter

In an older home, a newer dishwasher may sit in an opening built for an earlier model, connected to plumbing and wiring that have been reused through several replacements. Kinked drain hoses, worn supply connections and loose mounting brackets are common, and they lead to leaks and poor draining rather than an outright failure of the machine.

On properties served by private wells, iron and sediment can leave a reddish or gritty film in the tub, clog the inlet valve screen and dull the spray arms. A whole-house sediment filter is a plumbing question, but the dishwasher symptoms are ours to sort out.
