Why does my Avanti portable washer leak at the faucet?

The quick-connect adapter has a rubber washer that wears or shifts over time, and faucets vary in thread size. Replacing the washer or the adapter usually stops the leak. If the hose itself is cracked, replace it before the next load.

My washer is in a shed behind my Plaza Midwood bungalow. Will freezing weather hurt it?

It can. Water left in the hoses, pump or valve can freeze and crack them during an ice storm or cold snap. Shut the supply valves and disconnect the hoses before a hard freeze, and let us know if you see leaks afterward.

Why does water overflow from the drain standpipe behind my NoDa washer?

Many are portable top-load designs that connect to a kitchen or bathroom faucet with a quick adapter and drain into a sink or tub, with a small motor turning a pulsator or impeller in the tub. These machines are light and easy to move, but their hoses, adapters and small drive parts take more wear than a full-size washer's plumbing.

Laundry on Porches, in Closets and in Sheds
