Why are there sparks inside my Roper microwave?

Sparks often come from a burned or greasy waveguide cover on the cavity wall, chipped interior paint, or metal left inside. Stop using it until the cause is found. Replacing the cover is an inexpensive repair if the magnetron has not been damaged.

Do you repair microwave drawers in larger SouthPark-area kitchens?

Yes. Drawer models fail at the drawer mechanism, the door switches or the control, and we diagnose them in place before deciding whether the unit has to come out. Because a drawer fits a specific cabinet opening, repair is often preferable to replacement.

The vent fan on my condo's over-the-range microwave is loud. Is that a repair?

It can be. First clean the grease filters, because heavy buildup strains the fan. If the noise continues, the fan motor or its mount is likely worn, and we can replace it with the unit still on the wall in many cases.

Roper Microwaves: What We Check First

Roper has never been a big name in microwaves, and you will not find many Roper-badged units in local kitchens. When one does turn up, it is a Whirlpool-sourced countertop or over-the-range model with the same basic layout as other budget microwaves: a magnetron, a high-voltage transformer, capacitor and diode, a set of door interlock switches, a turntable motor and, on over-the-range units, a vent fan and light. Many Roper kitchens actually have a microwave from a different brand, and we repair those too.

Over-the-Range Units and Built-In Drawers

What You Can Check and What You Should Not

A microwave stores high voltage in its capacitor even when unplugged, so never remove the outer cabinet. You can safely reset its breaker, make sure the door closes firmly and clean or replace the grease filters under an over-the-range unit. If it runs but does not heat, sparks, or the panel stays dead, book a visit.
