LG Dryers: What We Check First

LG dryers are not direct-drive like LG washers. They use a conventional belt around the drum, driven by a motor that also powers the blower, with rear rollers and a front bearing or slides supporting the drum. Electric units heat with an element; gas models use an igniter, flame sensor and valve coils. Many LG dryers add a moisture sensor, steam features and a heat pump on some newer models, plus Flow Sense, which watches the exhaust and warns when airflow is restricted.

  • Exhaust restriction triggering d80 to d95 flow sense warnings
  • Thermistor open or shorted, shown as tE1 or tE2 errors
  • Heating element or thermal fuse failure, dryer tumbling cold
  • Worn idler pulley, rollers or snapped belt on the drum drive

The full explanation, including what you can safely check yourself and when repair beats replacement, is in our LG dryer repair guide.

Dust, pollen and long drying times

Homes on rural roads around Oakboro and Stanfield see plenty of field dust and spring pollen, and both end up in dryer vents and on outside flaps. Two-story houses in Locust subdivisions often have long vent runs that collect lint along the way. In either setting, poor airflow makes drying slow and can trip the thermal fuse, so the dryer runs without heat.

With the dryer running, check for strong airflow at the outside vent. Clean the lint screen and look for a crushed duct behind the dryer. If you have a propane dryer and smell gas, turn it off, leave and call your propane supplier or 911.

We test the heating element or igniter and gas valve, thermal fuse, thermostats, belt and rollers, and check the vent. Since visits may be grouped on route days at this edge of our area, the dryer's model number at booking helps us bring the right parts.
