My Thor freezer is cold but the fridge side is warm. Why?

Cold air reaches the fresh-food side from the freezer evaporator, so a frosted-over coil or a stopped evaporator fan starves the fridge first. That usually points to a defrost or fan fault rather than the compressor. Unplugging the unit for a day can melt the frost temporarily, but the failed part still needs replacing.

Our Stallings garage fridge struggles every summer. Is it broken?

Thor Refrigerators: What We Check First

Thor's refrigerators were designed to sit next to its pro-style ranges, so most are stainless, counter-depth or built-in French-door and column units with digital controls and an ice maker in the freezer. Underneath the heavy doors and handles, the refrigeration system is a conventional frost-free design: a compressor, a condenser near the base, an evaporator hidden behind the freezer panel, and a defrost heater that melts frost off that coil on a timed schedule.

Builder-Package Fridges Reaching Middle Age

Subdivisions along US-74 and Old Monroe Road went up over a short span of years, so a lot of the refrigerators here are similar in age and style: side-by-side or French-door models with through-the-door water and ice. Once they pass their first decade, the usual complaints are a fresh-food section that drifts warm, frost behind the freezer panel from a defrost fault, and dispensers that drip or quit.

A safe first look takes a few minutes. Pull the kick plate, unplug the unit and vacuum the condenser coils, which collect spring pollen and pet hair faster than most owners realize. Then check that the door gaskets seal along their full length, since humid summer air sneaking past a tired gasket causes sweating and frost.
