My Maytag Bravos washer won't spin. What should I check?

First make sure the lid is fully closed and nothing is blocking the lock. A slow drain can also prevent spin, so check for a kinked drain hose. If those are fine, the lid lock, belt or drive components may need testing.

My upstairs washer in Harrisburg leaked through the ceiling. Should I stop using it until you come?

Yes. Shut off the water valves behind the washer, unplug it and leave it off until it has been checked. Running another load can push more water into the subfloor, and we need to see the leak point anyway to find the cause.

Can you replace the supply hoses while you are at my Concord home?

Maytag Washers: What We Check First

Maytag washers are the brand's best-known products. Current models are on Whirlpool platforms and include top-loaders with agitators or impellers, such as the Bravos line, plus front-load washers. Many top-loaders lock the lid during agitation and spin and use a drive belt or coupling with a gearcase and shifter. Maytag adds features such as Extra Power and Deep Fill, and some models carry a longer limited warranty on certain parts. Older pre-2006 Maytag machines, including Neptune front-loaders, are a different design.

When the laundry room sits over the living room

In a two-story house in one of the newer subdivisions, a slow washer leak can show up first as a stain on the ceiling below. Common sources are a torn front-loader door boot, a cracked fill hose, a loose drain hose at the standpipe, or a pump seal that has started to weep into the drain pan.

If you notice water, turn off both supply valves behind the machine and unplug it before anything else. Check whether the drain pan is holding water and look at the door boot for tears or a sock caught in the folds. Front-loaders in our humid summers also grow mildew in the boot and dispenser if the door stays shut, which is an easy fix: leave it cracked between loads.
