Maytag Ranges: What We Check First

Maytag has a long history with ranges, including the Gemini double-oven models that put a small upper oven above a larger lower one, an idea current Maytag double-oven ranges still carry. Today's freestanding and slide-in Maytag ranges are Whirlpool-platform designs with a Power Burner on gas cooktops, Power Preheat in the oven and electronic controls that run both cavities on double-oven models. On electric versions, everything draws from a single 240-volt supply that enters through a terminal block at the back.

Slide-ins, touch controls and storm surges

Slide-in and front-control ranges with touch panels and convection fans are common in the newer kitchens here. Those controls are sensitive to the voltage spikes that come with summer thunderstorms, and a range that beeps, shows an error or will not respond after a storm may need only a power reset, or may have a damaged board or keypad. Older freestanding ranges near downtown Concord tend to have mechanical faults instead.

Try turning the range's breaker off for a minute and back on. Check that the anti-tip bracket is engaged and that the range has not been pulled forward, which can strain the gas line or power cord. If the oven or a burner still fails, note which parts work and which do not before you call.
