My GE range display is blank but some burners still work. Why?

On some ranges the cooktop controls work independently of the oven's electronic board. A failed board, a burned terminal block connection or a tripped breaker leg can kill the oven and display while leaving some burners working. We test each to find the cause.

GE Ranges: What We Check First

GE ranges span basic freestanding electric and gas models through GE Profile slide-ins and Café dual-fuel and induction ranges. Many share a common electronic oven control with GE's F-code diagnostics, and Profile and Café models add convection, air fry, Wi-Fi and in some cases a griddle or a second oven. Slide-ins, touch controls and storm surges

Slide-in and front-control ranges with touch panels and convection fans are common in the newer kitchens here. Those controls are sensitive to the voltage spikes that come with summer thunderstorms, and a range that beeps, shows an error or will not respond after a storm may need only a power reset, or may have a damaged board or keypad. Older freestanding ranges near downtown Concord tend to have mechanical faults instead.

Try turning the range's breaker off for a minute and back on. Check that the anti-tip bracket is engaged and that the range has not been pulled forward, which can strain the gas line or power cord. If the oven or a burner still fails, note which parts work and which do not before you call.
