Don't force it, because that can strip the drive gears. Turn the breaker off and on to reset it, then try again. If it still will not move, the drive motor, switches or control board need testing.

Over-the-range units, and why not to open them

In newer subdivisions, the microwave usually hangs above the range and also handles ventilation and the cooktop light. That means a failure affects more than reheating: a dead vent fan leaves cooking steam and grease in the kitchen, and a faulty door switch can blow the internal fuse each time the door closes. Grease-loaded filters underneath also make the fan run hot.

You can safely check the breaker, try a different power level, and remove and clean the grease filters. Do not open the cabinet. A microwave holds a high-voltage capacitor that can stay charged after the unit is unplugged, and that work belongs to a technician.
