Does my Roper dishwasher have a filter I need to clean?

Newer Roper dishwashers built on Whirlpool's current platform usually have a removable filter under the bottom spray arm. It should be twisted out and rinsed every month or so. Older units often use a self-cleaning disposer instead and do not have a removable filter.

My Indian Land dishwasher shut off and the base has a little water in it. What happened?

Many dishwashers have a float or leak sensor in the base that stops the machine when it detects water. The water may come from a door seal, a hose or an over-sudsing detergent. We locate the leak, fix it and reset the sensor.

Is it worth repairing the dishwasher in a newer Indian Land kitchen island?

Newer Whirlpool-platform machines use a removable filter assembly in the tub floor that needs regular cleaning, a quieter circulation motor and a separate drain pump. Both types rely on a float switch, an inlet valve, a heating element and a door latch.

Island dishwashers and hidden leaks

A dishwasher installed in an island runs its drain and supply lines through the floor or across the cabinet base to the sink. Those long runs can kink, and a slow drip from the door or a loose connection may go unnoticed until the cabinet floor swells or a musty smell appears. If you notice soft toe-kick trim or damp flooring, cut power at the breaker and close the valve under the sink.

Inside the tub, most newer models use a manual filter that needs regular rinsing. When it clogs, the dishwasher leaves a gritty film, drains slowly or sits with water after the cycle. Twist the filter out, rinse it and check the sump below for glass, seeds or labels.

Diagnosis and repair

If cleaning the filter does not help, the technician tests the drain pump, the circulation motor, the inlet valve, the heater and the controls. On models with a leak sensor in the base, a small amount of water can shut the machine down, so we find and fix the source before resetting it.
