Amana Ranges: What We Check First

Amana ranges are mostly freestanding models in gas, electric coil and electric smoothtop versions, built on Whirlpool platforms. They are common in rental homes, apartments and builder-grade kitchens. Controls are usually straightforward, with knobs for the cooktop and either knobs or a basic electronic panel for the oven. Because a range combines a cooktop and an oven, problems can come from either part. Many Amana gas ranges also put the broiler in the main oven cavity rather than a separate drawer, so one burner does both jobs.

One appliance, two systems

A range combines a cooktop and an oven, so a fault on one side does not mean the whole unit is done. A gas range with good burners and a weak oven igniter, or an electric range with one bad element and a sound control, is often a reasonable repair.
