Why does my JennAir downdraft vent run but barely pull smoke?

A running motor with weak suction usually points to a clogged filter, a dirty blower wheel, or a restriction in the duct or wall cap. We check each of those before suggesting a motor replacement. Tall pots also reduce how well any downdraft captures steam, which is a design limit rather than a fault.

One burner on my Locust gas cooktop will not light. Is it the igniter?

Possibly, or the burner cap may be out of position or the ports clogged. Dry and reseat the cap first. If it still will not light, we test the igniter and spark module.

Under the counter, a blower motor pulls air through a grease filter and pushes it through a duct to the outside. Burners, elements and planning the trip

On a propane or natural gas cooktop, the usual troubles are burners that will not light, light weakly or keep clicking, caused by wet or dirty igniters, misaligned caps or a failing spark module. Glass-top electric cooktops lose individual elements or switches, and induction boards can be damaged by storm surges. A cracked glass top should not be used until it is replaced, since spills can reach the wiring underneath.

Dry and reseat burner caps, check the breaker and confirm the propane tank has fuel. If you smell gas, shut it off, leave and call your supplier or 911.
