How do I tell whether my Whirlpool coil element or the outlet is bad?

With the stove off and cool, swap the suspect element into a working position. If it still does not heat, the element is bad. If it works there, the receptacle or switch at the original spot is the problem.

Coil burners, propane and glass tops
