First make sure the lid is fully closed and nothing is blocking the lock. A slow drain can also prevent spin, so check for a kinked drain hose. If those are fine, the lid lock, belt or drive components may need testing.

Overloaded machines and aging connections

Washers in student and workforce rentals take a beating. Overstuffed loads wear suspension rods, tub bearings and lid switches, and coins or hair ties in pockets end up in the drain pump.
