About Perlick Refrigerator Repair
A Perlick refrigerator is almost always an under-counter unit, built to slide into a cabinet opening in a bar, island or pantry. It takes in and expels air through the grille at the base, moving it across the condenser with a fan, so the sides and back can sit tight against cabinetry. Inside, a fan-forced evaporator circulates cold air, and the controls are usually digital. Many are also offered as beverage centers or drawers, and some are dual-zone.
Most service calls start with a refrigerator that is warmer than it should be. The usual reason is a condenser clogged with dust, pet hair or pollen behind the front grille, which forces the compressor to run longer. Fans are next: the condenser fan or evaporator fan wears out, gets noisy, and eventually stops. Heavy doors and drawers wear their hinges and slides, gaskets flatten, and on humid days a weak seal shows up as frost or sweating. Controls and sensors can also fail, especially after a power surge.
Before calling, turn off the unit at its switch or breaker, remove the front grille, and gently vacuum the visible condenser surfaces. Check that nothing blocks the grille, such as a rug or a toe-kick panel that was added later. Close the door on a strip of paper around the edge and feel for drag; a loose spot means the gasket is no longer sealing. Leave the unit off for a few minutes before restoring power.
Our visit includes measuring temperatures, checking condenser and evaporator fans, testing the sensors and control board, and looking for ice buildup that points to a defrost problem. If the unit still runs warm with good airflow and working fans, we move on to testing the sealed system.
Because Perlick units are expensive and sized for a particular opening, fan, sensor, gasket and control repairs are almost always worth it. Sealed-system work is a bigger decision, and we discuss the age of the unit and the replacement options before you commit.
