Sharp Refrigerator Repair

Sharp is better known for microwaves than refrigerators in the United States, but in recent years it has sold full-size models here, including French-door and bottom-freezer designs, some in counter-depth sizes. They use frost-free, fan-forced cooling with electronic controls, and many include ice makers, water dispensers or flexible-temperature drawers. Because the line is relatively new to North America, it has a shorter service record than older brands.

The faults we see are typical of modern multi-door refrigerators. A defrost heater, sensor or control failure lets frost build on the evaporator, and the fresh-food section warms because cold air can no longer flow. Ice makers stop when their water valve, fill tube or module fails; fill tubes can also freeze. Evaporator and condenser fans wear out and get noisy. French-door gaskets and the center flipper mullion can misalign, letting humid summer air in and causing sweating and frost.

Before calling, check that the doors close and seal fully and that nothing on the shelves holds them open. Clean the condenser area at the bottom with the power off. If the ice maker has stopped, confirm the water supply valve is open and the filter is not overdue. Listen for the fans; if you hear nothing from the freezer when the compressor is running, note that for the technician. After a storm outage, give the fridge several hours to recover before judging it.
