About Traulsen Refrigerator Repair
A Traulsen reach-in refrigerator looks simple from the front, but the working parts are mostly overhead. On many models the compressor, condenser coil, condenser fan and control sit on top of the cabinet, while the evaporator coil and its fan are housed inside near the top. Pass-thru models add a second set of doors on the back, and dual-temperature units split the cabinet into refrigerator and freezer sections with separate controls.
Because the condenser draws air from up near the ceiling, a Traulsen can be more sensitive than bottom-mount units to kitchen heat and to anything stored on top of it. Grease and dust on that coil are the leading cause of slow pull-down and long run times. Inside the cabinet, an evaporator fan motor that slows or stops leaves warm zones even while the compressor runs. Heavy doors wear out gaskets and hinges, and a door that drifts open on its own keeps the system working nonstop.
For safe owner checks, switch the unit off and clear anything stored on top of the cabinet. With a stable step stool, look at the condenser grille for lint and grease. Check that each door swings closed and seals by closing it on a strip of paper around the frame. Give product room so air can circulate inside, and note any alarm or reading on the control panel.
On a service call we compare the cabinet temperature to the control reading, check condenser and evaporator fan operation, measure compressor current, and look at the temperature drop across the evaporator. If the system checks out but temperatures still drift, we move on to sensors and the control. You get the diagnosis and the price before any repair.
Gaskets, hinges, fans, controls and coil service are routine on a Traulsen. Given what these cabinets cost new, even larger repairs often make sense on a sound unit, and we will help you weigh that.
Where Traulsen Refrigerators Tend to Fail
- Top-mounted condenser coil fouled by rising grease and ceiling heat
- Evaporator fan motor stalling, leaving warm zones in the cabinet
- Heavy door hinges worn so doors no longer swing shut
- Control sensor drift causing the cabinet to hold off-setpoint
