My LG dishwasher shows AE. What should I do?

AE means water has reached the leak tray in the base. Turn off the power and water, and check for suds from the wrong detergent or a visible leak. The tray must dry out before the code clears, and repeated AE errors call for an inspection of the hoses, pump and door seal.

A fine filter under the lower spray arm collects food particles and needs regular cleaning. The base of the unit holds a leak tray with a float switch, and the control board watches fill time, drain time and leak status closely.

Well water inside the dishwasher

A dishwasher fills through a small inlet valve with a fine screen, and on well water that screen can clog with sediment until the machine underfills and cleans poorly. Iron leaves orange or brown stains on racks and the tub, and minerals form a film on glasses. Over time, grit wears the valve seat and the wash pump seal, which can lead to leaks around the base.

Clean the filter in the bottom of the tub and check the spray arms for blocked holes. If the house loses water when the well pump loses power, a dishwasher that was mid-cycle may show an error afterward; reset it at the breaker and run a short cycle. If water appears under the door, turn off the supply and power.

The technician tests the inlet valve, pump, heater, float and control, cleans what can be cleaned and quotes before replacing parts. We can tell you when a whole-house filter would extend the life of the repair, though that work belongs to a water treatment company.
