Range Repair for Freestanding, Slide-In and Pro-Style Ranges
A range is a cooktop and an oven sharing one chassis, one set of controls and one power or gas connection. ProFix Appliance Repair Charlotte looks at the whole unit, so a fault in one half gets fixed without guesswork about the other.

A range puts a cooktop and an oven in one chassis with shared controls and a single gas or electrical connection. Since either half can fail on its own, a fault in one can leave a household without its main way to cook, and installation details like leveling and anti-tip brackets matter for safety. We repair freestanding, slide-in and front-control ranges in gas, electric and dual-fuel configurations, as well as pro-style ranges with high-output burners, double ovens and convection. Work includes surface burners and elements, oven igniters and elements, sensors, control boards, door hinges, leveling and anti-tip brackets.

Two Appliances in One Chassis
A range combines a cooktop and an oven in a single cabinet, with one control area and one connection to the house. That shared design is why it can fail in two independent ways. The surface burners or elements can quit while the oven bakes perfectly, or the oven can go cold while the cooktop carries on. Treating the range as one unit, rather than two separate problems, helps us find faults faster.
The style matters too. Freestanding ranges have finished sides and a backguard carrying the controls. Slide-in models sit between cabinets with front controls and edges that overlap the counter. Pro-style ranges add heavy grates, high-output burners and often convection fans, while dual-fuel ranges pair gas burners on top with an electric oven below. If your complaint is mainly about burners not lighting, uneven flames or clicking igniters, our stove repair page goes deeper on the cooking surface itself.
What Usually Fails on a Range, and Where
On the cooktop half, infinite switches, coil receptacles, spark electrodes and igniter modules do most of the failing. On the oven half, it's bake and broil elements, gas glow igniters, temperature sensors and safety valves. Above both sit the controls, which on many ranges live in a backguard or front panel directly in the path of heat rising from the oven vent.
A useful rule: one dead burner with a working oven is almost never a control-board problem. It's the element, burner or switch serving that position. A range where the clock, oven and touch pads all misbehave at once, especially after a thunderstorm outage, is a more likely candidate for a board or power supply fault. Self-clean cycles put the most strain on the electronics and are a common trigger for door locks sticking or thermal fuses opening.
Leveling, Anti-Tip Brackets and Installation Details
Some range problems are really installation problems. A range out of level makes oil run to one side of the pan and cakes bake lopsided. In older homes with settled crawl-space floors, leveling can take more than a quick turn of the legs. Slide-in ranges need their height and depth set precisely so the cooktop edges sit flush on the counter rather than leaving a crumb gap.
Every freestanding and slide-in range should be held by an anti-tip bracket that locks over a rear leg. Without it, weight on an open oven door can tip the range forward, which is a serious risk with children or heavy roasting pans. If your range shifts when you pull the door down, stop leaning on it and have the bracket checked. We also confirm the circuit is right: electric and dual-fuel ranges need a dedicated 240-volt supply, and some apartment buildings deliver 208 volts, which slows heat-up.
What You Can Check Before We Arrive
Start with the simple things. Make sure the oven isn't locked, in Sabbath mode or set to a delayed start. Switch the breaker off for a minute to reset the electronics. Put a level on an oven rack and a grate. Check behind the bottom drawer whether the anti-tip bracket is engaged, and keep foil off the oven floor, since it traps heat against the hidden element and can damage the enamel.
Leave the rest alone. Gas smell means leaving the home and calling the gas utility or 911 from outside. Don't open the terminal block on an electric range, adjust a regulator, or try to bypass a door lock after self-clean. Write down any error code exactly as displayed, because codes vary by brand and help us bring the right parts.
How a Range Repair Visit Runs
Call us or book online, and same-day service is often available when the schedule allows. The technician tests the heat source, switch, sensor or board that matches your symptom, so you're not paying for a part chosen from a guess. You hear the diagnosis and the price before any work starts.
Oven elements, igniters and switches are often repaired in a single visit; control boards and model-specific parts may need to be ordered, and we tell you that up front. Each completed repair is backed by our 90-day parts and 30-day labor warranty. If your range is still under the manufacturer's warranty, we'll mention it so you can choose that route.
Repair or Replace a Range
Because a range is two appliances in one, it's frequently worth repairing when only one half has failed. A bake element, igniter, switch or sensor costs a small share of a new range, and the rest of the unit keeps its value. Pro-style and dual-fuel ranges, which cost considerably more to replace, usually justify larger repairs as well.
Replacement deserves a closer look when an older range needs a main control board and the cooktop is also worn, when rust has spread through the oven cavity, or when parts for that model are no longer made. We'll lay out the options honestly. Keeping spills off igniters, skipping foil on the oven floor, and using self-clean sparingly all help a range last.
